OpenAI has recently launched the Advanced Voice Mode feature on ChatGPT. Currently available in a limited alpha, the Advanced Voice Mode comes with more natural, real-time conversations that pick up on and respond with emotion and non-verbal cues.
The OpenAI Advanced Voice Mode on ChatGPT is currently available on the iOS and Android ChatGPT apps. Users are required Android: app version 1.2024.206 or later; iOS: app version 1.2024.206 or later and iOS 16.4 or later.
How Will You Know You Have Access to Advanced Voice Mode?
You will receive an email with instructions on how to use Advanced Voice mode if you are invited to the alpha. When you open the app, a tooltip in the bottom-right will also ask you to test the advanced Voice Mode.

How To Start Conversation With Advanced Voice Mode?
You need to select the Voice icon located in the lower-right corner of the screen to initiate a chat using the Advanced Voice Mode. Once you start speaking, a screen will appear.

By clicking the microphone icon in the lower-left corner of the screen, you can adjust the microphone’s mute or unmute settings.
To end the conversation, click the red symbol located at the lower-right corner of the screen. You can go back to the usual Voice Mode at any time by selecting Advanced setting.

Usage Limits
There are daily usage limits on Advanced Voice (audio inputs and outputs), and these limits are subject to change. When you have three minutes remaining on your audio, the ChatGPT app will sound an alert. The chat will finish instantly when the limit is reached, and you will be given the option to switch back to the regular voice mode.
OpenAI is planning to give all Plus users access to the Advanced Voice Mode in the fall. Exact timelines depend on meeting its high safety and reliability bar. The company is also working on rolling out the new video and screen sharing capabilities it demoed separately and will keep users posted on that timeline.
The Advanced Voice Mode is currently available to a limited number of users on Plus accounts.
