OpenAI ChatGPT Canvas is in early beta and is available to ChatGPT Plus and Team subscribers. This will be available for free users once the feature has completed the testing cycle.

OpenAI introduced a new interface, Canvas, within ChatGPT for writing and coding projects that go beyond simple chat. Developed with GPT-4o, Canvas is available to ChatGPT Plus and Team subscribers in beta and can be manually chosen in the model selector.
Enterprise and Edu users can access Canvas by next week. OpenAI also aims to make available canvas to all ChatGPT Free users when it is out of beta. Canvas opens in a new window so that you can work on a project with ChatGPT. This early beta offers a unique method of collaboration that involves creating and honing ideas side by side in addition to talking.
What Can You Do with ChatGPT Canvas?
ChatGPT canvas provides a better understanding of the context of what you are trying to accomplish. To clarify exactly what you want ChatGPT to focus on, you can highlight particular sections. With the project as a whole in mind, the canvas can provide inline comments and suggestions, much like a copy editor or code reviewer.
With canvas, you can control the project and can directly edit text or code. ChatGPT offers a menu of shortcuts to modify writing length, debug your code, and quickly perform other useful actions. You can also use Canvas’s back button to retrieve previous versions of your work.
ChatGPT opens Canvas automatically when it senses a situation where it can be useful. To launch Canvas and work on an already-started project, you can also include the phrase “use canvas” in your prompt.
There are a lot of ChatGPT shortcuts available for writing and coding.
For Writing:
- Suggest edits
- Adjust the length
- Change reading level
- Add emojis
- Add final polish
For Coding:
According to OpenAI, as it can be hard to follow all the revisions to your code in chat, canvas makes it easier to track and understand ChatGPT’s changes. The company also plans to continue enhancing transparency in these kinds of edits. Following are the coding shortcuts:
- Review code
- Add logs
- Add comments
- Fix bugs
- Port to a language
According to the company, it has trained its GPT-4o model to act as a creative partner for the new Canvas interface.
